There are two main styles of security cameras: Dome and Bullet. Technically there isn’t a lot different about the two. They both can deliver the same quality of video. They both will have options such as night vision and digital zoom. So what is different?
The most obvious difference is their shape. Dome cameras look like a dome and bullet cameras look more obtrusive. There are variations to this as well but the pictures below give you the general look.

Dome Camera
Dome cameras can be installed both on ceilings and walls but are most commonly seen on the ceiling. When encased in vandal-resistant housing they are virtually indestructible – you could drive over it in your car (not that I suggest it). With a lower profile they work great indoors in areas you don’t want them to be noticed like in a hotel lobby or a baby’s room. With a shorter lens, they work better in applications that don’t need a long-distance view.
Bullet Camera
Bullet Cameras come with a mounting bracket with allows for easy installation on both ceilings and walls. Adjusting the angle of view is easily done even after installation – a dome camera you would need to remove any vandal proof housing. Many are built for the outdoors including cold winters. They are more noticeable which can act as a deterrent for potential criminals. Equipped with a bigger lens than a dome camera, they work great for long-range vision and when paired with IR technology make great nighttime cameras.
Both Dome and Bullet cameras are great security cameras and area available as both IP and Analog cameras. Some added benefits for both include:
· High resolution images
· Motion detection
· Day and Night modes
· Smart HDR
· Optional Audio
